William Jack "B.J." Kimbrough to Red Milton |
Date |
1943 |
Description |
Letter from B.J. Kimbrough in Camp Barkeley, Texas to Wilbur Rufus "Red" Milton in Thomasville, July 24, 1943. Kimbrough writes Milton that his grueling schedule has prohibited him from writing any sooner and shares his schedule: K.P. on Sunday, clean-up detail on Monday, as well as cleaning up for inspection, guard duty, and standing in line Wednesday night to get a haircut before inspection. His graduation is two weeks away but there has been no official date set for it. He tells of a recent long double-time forced march that was hotter than could be imagined but made it through without "falling out." He mentions there are lots of salt tablets in both the barracks and on the tables in the mess hall and soldiers are encouraged to partake of them regularly while training in the hot conditions. He tells Milton he's still in good shape but has lost weight due to working out in the heat. |
